THE PICTURES ARE FLYING AGAIN: LED RENEWAL AT DORTMUNDER U COMPLETED - NEW START WITH NEW MOTIFS

The "flying pictures" on the Dortmunder U are shining again: After a good three months, the renewal of the work on the roof has been completed. Around 6000 louvers fitted with LEDs were successfully replaced. Now new control modules still follow - but Adolf Winkelmann's popular art installation can re-start on Monday. "The tower has used the period of enforced rest to learn foreign languages," announces artist Adolf Winkelmann: The "Flying Pictures" present themselves with a brand new and up-to-date motif.

We cordially invite you to experience the new start of the Flying Pictures: On Monday, March 1, 3 p.m. Adolf Winkelmann will set the LED at the Dortmunder U in motion again. Meeting point is the "Park der Partnerstädte" at the east side of the Dortmunder U (at the Königswall).
If you can't be there, you can follow the moment of the switch-on from 14:55 on our social media channels.

We are looking forward to seeing you!

Background: Since 2010, the "Flying Pictures" have been shining out from the Dortmunder U into the world. The installation of 1.2 million LEDs with the sometimes witty, sometimes political, often also topical statements of the artist Adolf Winkelmann are part of the Dortmund cityscape and have received high national and international attention. Since the opening of the building as a center for art and creativity, they have shone almost continuously and now had to be replaced. In addition, the technology received an upgrade, so that the optical display of the flying pictures, the longevity and the energy efficiency are significantly improved.
