75 years Hiroshima: Japanese artist Junko Wada performs the "Flying Pictures" at the Dortmund U

75 years ago, on 6 August 1945, the first atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. On this occasion, Adolf Winkelmann, creator of the "Flying Pictures" at the Dortmunder U, has asked the Japanese artist Junko Wada for a contribution, which will be shown on the roof crown of the U on August 5 and 6. The performance begins on August 5th at 6 pm and ends on August 6th at midnight.

Junko Wada, painter, performance and conceptual artist, repeatedly reflects Japanese traditions and their cultural expressions in her work. For this special theme she has created a text in Kanji characters, which will be shown around the tower on both days. Translated into Japanese it reads "Hiroshima 6. 8. 1945 / The 75th anniversary of radioactive contamination".

Junko Wada lives and works in Berlin and Amino (Kyoto). She is represented in many museums, galleries and public places worldwide, including the ZKM Karlsruhe, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin, the Museu de Arte Sao Paulo and the Ruhrtriennale.
