Page21 - New digital narratives at the Dortmund U

In the page21 project, the storyLab kiU of the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, which is located in the Dortmunder U, is developing new digital narrative worlds as the initiator and idea provider together with the Museum Ostwall in the Dortmunder U and the Dortmund Museum of Art and Cultural History.

The one-year experimental and research project will test how digital storytelling in virtual space can be combined with real exhibits and concrete offerings at the exhibition site. For this novel art project, a narrative format is being developed that is intended to inspire as well as open up unusual contexts and attract new visitors to museums.

The idea is not to simply digitize works of art. Rather, the page21 team is developing thematic worlds and new narratives around the collection pieces. The goal is to connect digital arts with everyday life and visions for future forms of society. In this way, their own artworks are created from new stories that can then be experienced by visitors in immersive space and virtual reality - including interaction options, sophisticated sound support and lighting effects. These new places, where visitors can immerse themselves in the virtual world of page21 with (almost) all their senses, are scheduled to open at Dortmunder U in 2021.

From 2020 to 2021, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia will support the cooperation project page21 in the funding priority New Arts Ruhr.
