Digital culture in the Dortmund U

The Dortmunder U is the only large, nationally significant cultural institution in NRW with a systematic focus on digital culture and the digital transformation of the arts. The film installations by Adolf Winkelmann, but especially through the media façade Flying Pictures on the roof crown, form the (digital) landmark of the Dortmunder U to the outside world.

The topic of digitality is the focus of the implementation of exhibitions, workshops, as well as other projects and event formats by all of the institutions located in the Dortmunder U. The digital orientation naturally entails that the institutions in the Dortmunder U work across the board and collaboratively. The building has proven this in projects such as page21, Innovative Citizen, DIGITRANS and smARTplaces. There are close exchange relationships and a common understanding of new forms of digital art and creativity between storylab kiU at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the Academy for Digitality and Theater.

In summary, the Dortmunder U sees itself as a large future laboratory in the digital (art) world.
