at the DEW21 Museum Night

Dortmunder U, Kooperationsprojekt, Museum Ostwall, Centre for cultural education

The perfect opportunity to get to know the Dortmunder U anew:

The interactive festival U R ART, on 21 September from 4 p.m. to midnight as part of the DEW21 Museum Night, offers the opportunity to take a new look at the U and experience the house in a new way. In six other museums and cultural institutions throughout Europe, a wide variety of activities and connecting elements will take place in which visitors to the Dortmunder U can participate. The U R ART event is part of the smARTplaces project, a European cooperation project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

Our programme for the day:

4 p.m.

The new fulldome at Dortmunder U takes up futuristic atmospheres to test new formats of film and interaction. The 6-metre-wide dome, which impresses visitors with its technical features and innovations in the context of its visual presentation, is intended to provide insights into the Dortmunder U and make all topics dealt with in exhibitions and workshops accessible to our visitors. The Fulldome is a joint research project on narrative methods in the 360° space of the partners in the Dortmunder U and the Storylab kiU of the Fachhochschule Dortmund.

4.30 p.m.

My friends in the world

Where does your farthest friend live? Tell us a story that connects you.

Write it down or record it as a podcast. You can also listen to all the stories told so far.

4.00 p.m. to midnight

Astronaut flight

Fly as a real astronaut through the air and collect points! Take off with us and explore the world as an astronaut. You control the flight all by yourself with your body. Crack the highscore and become our new superhero? We wish you a good flight!

4.00 p.m. to midnight

Live video calls

Promote the intra-European exchange with us and network live with other museum visitors of our smARTplaces partners in Europe. "What is happening today at U R ART in your museum?" would be an interesting question for your counterpart!

4.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.

 „Museumsumbau. Menschenleben. Moosgummi.“ or

“Remodelling the museum. Human life.  Foam rubber.”

"Hey MO, what about you?", you could ask the Museum Ostwall in the Dortmunder U, because its rooms are currently being completely renovated. And just like an exhibition space changes, so does the human being. That's why we let the museum ask back: "And, what's going to happen to you? We put you in the spotlight and probe: "How do you see yourself? What is important to you? In the school workshop at UZWEI we offer interactive activities on these questions. Here you can measure yourself against others, put yourself in the picture and put your individual stamp on your own works of art. You can then take it home with you to mark texts and things as "made by me".

5.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.

The cinema of the Dortmunder U becomes a show stage!

An experienced presenter will lead you through different quiz rounds. Multiple-choice questions appear on the cinema screen in the form of text, video, audio and image questions. The categories revolve around the location and the occasion of the evening (Art, Europe, Dortmunder U, etc.) plus classics of the quiz history. The questions and answers are original, modern and humorous. Up to 150 quiz player can test their knowledge together. As input devices, visitors use their own smartphone: a simple scan of a QR code directs the quiz player to a website where he can get an avatar and a personal quiz name. And the quiz can start.

5.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.

From 9.00 p.m.

Projections the size of a building onto the house façade set the stage for the Dortmunder U in a special way. Among other things, images of the institutions of our smARTplaces partners are made visible.

U R ART is a major event that takes place as part of the long-term smARTplaces project. smARTplaces is a visionary cooperation project co-financed by the European Union's Creative Europe programme and aims to test how art and culture can be perceived and experienced using digital technologies and new forms of cultural mediation.
